NY Bridal Market Oct 2012

A much overdue post! It was our first time at New York Bridal Market Oct 2012 and it was a real experience, where we were one of the first to see the new Fall 2013 collections by our designers and more. Here are a preview of the new collections and we also picked up a few new designers! More on that to come!

At Temperley, the Florence 2013 collection was floaty, ethereal and elegant, a Temperley signature. We overheard one of the photographers for an established bridal magazine saying that this was the absolute best collection that they have seen across the designers!

At Amanda Wakeley Sposa’s booth, we picked out gowns for our trunk show (held at the end of October and it was a success!). Classic, simple and luxurious. Amanda Wakeley’s gowns are versatile and could easily be worn for at a beach setting or a formal New York wedding. These were the crowd favorites at our trunk show.

At Badgley Mischka, the duo drew inspiration from the heavens, naming their gowns after planets and zodiac signs. The gods were certainly looking out for them as the collection presented was simply divine. Slender and full gowns were both featured, with dramatic embroidery and elaborate beading being a connecting force.

David Fielden updated his classic Grace Kelly gown, replacing the tulle skirt with a simple satin sheath skirt. This will no doubt be a hit at The Prelude Bridal, following in the footsteps of the Grace Kelly gown.

And last but not least, our favourite designer Junko Yoshioka whom we had the pleasure of meeting and chatting to at her workshop. An soft-spoken, sweet and pleasant lady, we can’t wait to see more of her, hopefully in Singapore! Again, the collection showed off her signature style of using unusual fabrics, sourced twice a year from France.

This is an amazing full beaded sheath gown… perfect as an evening gown for a dramatic entrance.

One thing we noticed from all the designers was the presence of lace, long sleeves and more lace. A testament to the effects of the Royal Wedding and the Duchess of Cambridge’s style on both designers and brides. So if you are a bride-to-be and you love lace, you will be spoilt for choice when the new collections hit the stores. The Fall 2013 collections will be arriving at The Prelude Bridal in March 2013. Mark this down in your diaries!

We leave you with this final image. My absolute favorite shot from Bridal Market!

A (Tiffany) Blue weekend… and more

It was a busy weekend at The Prelude Bridal, with two events back to back (and two weddings slotted in the middle).

First up, “A Lifetime of Brilliance” at Tiffany & Co’s Marina Bay Sands store on 29 October. Hosted by Female Brides editor, Steve Thio who looked extremely dapper in his jacket, it was an afternoon of discovery. Attendees discover edTiffany diamonds, the most beautiful symbol of true love, and explored Tiffany jewels and gifts.

Models Kate, Ella and Douvle strolled through the audience wearing bridal and evening gowns from The Prelude Bridal. Each had their look completed with a stunning set of jewels from Tiffany & Co and hair/makeup by makeup guru Tinoq Russell Goh.

Ella was the “dramatic” bride, with a patterned organza modified mermaid gown with mesh organza flounced ruffles on the bodice and skirt by Junko Yoshioka. Her look was paired with a long string of pearls, perfect for the fashionista bride.

Kate went for the “vintage” feel in her Jean gown by Temperley London. Temperley’s best seller was a hit with the crowd!

Douvle on the other hand, was “modern” in her sweetheart bustier gown by Junko Yoshioka with a clean finish and simple a-line silhouette.

Ella changed her look and was now a “romantic” bride in a bustier tulle ball gown with fern head inspired beading scattered throughout by Junko Yoshioka.

A final look at the lovely models.

Floral decor by Fiore Dorato; rumballs, cupcakes and pastries by Antionette and Pine Garden.

Tune in next for more on our in-house event!

All about sashes

Wearing a sash or belt can instantly change the look of your gown and works to customise your gown, making it one of a kind. There are endless options, ranging from size, color or sparkle. It will also accentuate your body, adding a defined waistline if the dress doesn’t have one.

Pictured here is a strapless modified mermaid organic lace inspired gown by Junko Yoshioka from her Spring 2012 collection.

See how easily one can change the look of the gown by adding (1) a Swarovski crystal belt by Amanda Wakeley, (2) a white satin sash, or (3) a feathered flower ivory sash by Haute Bride. Pick the style that matches your personality and defines you. Do you like simplicity? Or do you prefer some sparkle? You can also change your sash to suit the venue. The white satin sash would be perfect for a church ceremony, while some sparkle would go well in a formal ballroom setting.

Three different looks, one dress.

Shoes — Every woman’s weakness

It is a truth universally acknowledged that if there’s one thing women have in common, it’s a weakness for shoes. One can never have too many pairs of shoes. A pair of shoes can make or break an outfit. So here are 5 essentials that every woman should have in her shoe boudoir. All shoes are by Aruna Seth and are now available exclusively at The Prelude Bridal. Book your appointment now to try on a pair of Aruna Seth Shoes which are specially designed to provide glamorous comfort. No longer will brides have to grimace in pain or hobble about after wearing these shoes during her wedding day and will probably even last through the after party!

1. The Wedding Shoe
It is no secret that brides often have difficulty finding a pair of wedding shoes. Three important tips when it comes to buying your wedding shoe — comfort, color and continuity.

Bear in mind that you are going to literally live in these shoes for a whole day. So be sure that you are comfortable in your shoes before purchasing them. Think also about your venue. This pair of Farfalla butterfly white satin platforms, most recently worn by Nikki Reed of The Twilight Saga fame at her wedding, is perfect for an elegant formal wedding.

But if it’s a beach or garden wedding, opt for wedges instead like the Kimberley ivory satin wedges. You won’t want to be sinking your heels into a nicely manicured lawn or sandy beach with each step you take.

Colour is all the rage now. You don’t always have to go with the traditional white or ivory colored shoes. Go for a pop of color like egg plant or coral. Or pick a color that will match your theme.

If you want a bit more bling, these Cerise satin wedges with Swarovski crystals will do the trick especially if you’re wearing a tea length party dress.

Lastly, make sure you can wear your shoes again. Don’t buy a pair of shoes that will only see the light of one day. If you decide to wear an ivory or white satin Aruna Seth shoes, the satin can be dyed and your wedding shoes will be transformed to an almost new pair of shoes!

2. The Working Girl
Classic blacks are a definite must have!

3. The Everyday Flats
When we want to kick back our heels and relax, slip on a pair of sandals and pair it with a pair of boyfriend jeans. A favourite of Katherine Heigel.

4. The Day to Night Wedges
Off for Friday night drinks after work? This pair of brown leather gold studded wedges will do the trick. I’m a proud owner of a pair and let me tell you, the softness of the nappa leather is simply sublime. Available also in black, navy blue suede and cream.

5. The Fashion Statement
Every girl needs that one pair that will wow everyone’s socks off and you won’t go wrong with this raspberry satin Farfallas!

Bridal Beauty — Cellular Power Infusion by La Prairie

It’s one month to your big day. Everything is starting to fall into place. You’ve gone for your first gown fitting. You’re finalizing your seating plan. Decor and floral arrangements have been settled. You’ve gone for your food and cake tasting.

But there’s another major item that should not be left off the check list — beauty preparation for your big day! If you don’t have good skin, what good will the makeup do even by the best make up gurus in Singapore. So how do you ensure that your skin will look absolutely fabulous? A perfectly balanced, clear and glowing complexion.

Enter La Prairie’s Cellular Power Infusion treatment. It’s described as a revolutionary anti-aging breakthrough but it promises to reenergize your skin into looking and feeling re-born; smoother, dewier, tighter, more luminous. Sounds perfect for a pre-wedding beauty prep to me!

The Cellular Power Infusion treatment is a skin booster that is meant to be used alongside your regular skincare regime. Each treatment lasts for 28 to 40 days (to apply religiously in the morning and at night) to coincide with the skin’s natural renewal cycle. The treatment consists of 4 vials tucked nicely in its own white leatherette case. Each vial lasts for between 7 to 10 days.

It is necessary to go through one complete cycle (4 bottles) of skin renewal initially to balance the energy level, the cellular quality and tissue quality. Then it is meant to be used intermittently, one month out of three, along with your regular skincare regimen – no matter how simple or comprehensive it may be. Considering each treatment pack retails for USD475, it might be rather painful on the pocket to indulge in this treatment once every three months. But I think it’s perfectly justifiable as a pre-wedding gift to yourself!

I won’t go into details about the ingredients contained in this miracle serum. You can read about it here: http://www.cellularpowerinfusion.com/

The active ingredients must be “freshly combined” for optimal performance. Activate each vial by twisting the bottom cap of the vial and watch as a colored liquid is released to form a brilliant lilac serum. Once activated, it will be “fresh” for 7 to 10 days of use.

I have tired, dull skin that is prone to breakouts and clogged pores. So although my wedding was 6 months ago (wow time flies!), I decided to give this treatment a shot. I started off a skeptic. There have been many a time when I’m bought over by the description of a product but the effects are almost zilch. This serum goes on smoothly and is absorbed fully without leaving any residue. It feel slightly sticky (but not greasy) initially but this disappears after a few minutes. Sometimes i put a second layer. I love the fragrance as well. I applied my usual moisturizer and eye cream (a must at my age now) and went off to bed. Effortless! So far, I’ve only used one vial (and it lasted for 9 days despite me slathering it on morning and night). But I’m seeing the improvements which would explain why I’m willing to write this post even before completing all four vials. My skin is definitely smoother, less sensitive, less dehydrated and there’s a glow to it! Can’t wait to see the results of the full treatment! The only down side is the use of the dropper dispenser which makes it hard to reach the serum sitting at the bottom of the vial once you hit Day 8.

So brides-to-be, consider pampering your skin before your big day with La Prairie’s Cellular Power Infusion!
